Via Québec Urbain: Québec est cité en exemple dans le London Free Press pour sa Commission de la capitale nationale. C’est sous la plume de l’éditeur en chef, M. Paul Berton. En voici quelques extraits:
« You have to sell beauty, » says Denis Angers, director of promotion and communications for the National Capital Commission in Quebec City. And you have to have vision. […]
The city is transformed, through landscaping, through public art, through artistic lighting — and, finally, through private-sector redevelopment. […]
Blank walls once covered in crumbling mortar or graffiti were adorned with murals by famous artists, which have become tourist attractions. […] The results are spectacular.
Says Angers: « People would say at the beginning, ‘How can you invest in beauty when there is so much need, in health, in housing, in all kinds of things?’ […] Here’s the answer: Beauty creates a more secure city. When it’s more secure, there is more interest, more people will move into the area, condominiums get developed, the taxes increase, and the small investment in beautification starts to pay for itself.
« In the long term, beauty pays for itself, » insists Angers.
Pas besoin de dire que je pense que l’éducation est comme la beauté: it pays for itself!
